You all are wrong. This IS the site of the former train station. The stocking factory is also in its correct place. It was demolished but you can still clearly see its footprint on the map, to the southeast of this location (above Nichols Place Park)

This is the location of the circus train disaster, that is correct.

Jerry Davich's book Lost Gary, does have something in it because that's the first I ever heard of it. Should be restored as a museum. Could be very educational.

Is this where the 1918 train disaster occurred? The Department of Transportation's archives lead me to believe that it is: http://specialcollection.dotlibrary.dot.gov/Document?db=DOT-RAILROAD&query=%28select+537%29

and into the very early 80's, I grew up there, my dad was an umpire..... Do you remember (I don't remember what year, i'll say '79) Bugs Bunny flew out to the field in a helicopter.... kicked the home plate umpire in the butt, kicked dirt on his shoes..... threw out the first pitch then left? That's one of my best memories (senior league world series).
  • Junedale Little League, Jeri (guest) wrote 9 years ago:
My dad was an umpire there in the 70's, and has since passed. Something has made me think about a fellow umpire, let's see, my dad was in his 20's in the 70's.... there was an older black man, umpire, whose name I can't remember... it was Royal (first name), or something Royal (last name). For some reason tonight he came into my thoughts. His name eludes me. But he was the nicest man, treated my & my sister (we were NOT 10 years old), like his own kids. Sweet man. I do know that he passed in the late 90's. If anyone know that name, please let me know. it's driving me crazy!
